When is an investigation needed?

A workplace investigation is typically required when:

  • An employee raises a grievance (e.g. bullying, discrimination, harassment)

  • You suspect misconduct, such as theft, timekeeping issues, or policy breaches

  • You receive a formal complaint, either internally or from a third party

  • You're considering disciplinary action and need to establish facts

Failing to investigate properly — or skipping the process — can lead to unfair dismissal claims or breach of process

Our investigation includes:

GRIEVANCE INVESTIGATION

We guide or lead investigations into employee complaints, ensuring:

  • Issues are handled impartially and sensitively

  • All relevant evidence is collected

  • Timely updates are provided

  • A full written outcome is documented

DISCIPLINARY INVESTIGATIONS

Before any disciplinary action is taken, a fair investigation must occur.

We’ll help you:

  • Interview witnesses and gather evidence

  • Keep the process legally compliant and unbiased

  • Decide whether the matter should proceed to a formal hearing

FROM INVESTIGATION TO HEARING

If the facts support formal action, we’ll help you:

  • Draft disciplinary invite letters

  • Prepare hearing packs and chairing notes

  • Support or run the disciplinary hearing

  • Draft outcome letters with appropriate warnings or recommendations

If dismissal is on the table, it must be fair, reasonable, and based on a clear process. We’ll guide you every step of the way.

ACAS Code of Practice: Why It Matters

The ACAS Code of Practice on Disciplinary and Grievance Procedures sets out the minimum standards all employers must follow. Tribunals expect businesses to follow it — and failing to do so can result in increased compensation for claimants.

We ensure your process meets or exceeds these standards.
